Elevate is a residential program designed to provide students with affordable housing while they secure the education, employment, and independence necessary to build productive lives for themselves.
As part of the program, each student receives a fully furnished apartment that includes a private bedroom, as well as a shared bathroom, living space, and kitchen. Utilities – including electricity, water, and internet service – are also covered by the program.
Students enrolled in the Elevate program are provided access to the LP Boutique, a community-stocked resource that provides clothing, shoes, toiletries, furniture, home goods, cleaning supplies, kitchenware, books, and electronics at no cost.
But Elevate provides more than just affordable housing and access to the Boutique; it also provides the case management, support, and resources these young adults need to thrive. To that end, the program provides each student with independent-living training, which gives the students the chance to learn skills relating to finances, health, leadership, and personal development.
As a teenager I was abused and left home at the age of 17. I graduated from the University of Georgia this year, but I did not have financial assistance or anyone to help sign on a lease for a place to live. Without an address it was very difficult to get a job and I ended up living in my car. Today I have an address, a job and a whole group of people who love and support me thanks to Lydia’s Place.
